NEC Storage StoragePowerConserver (power conserving function) is a product to reduce power consumption by activating physical disks not always used when necessary. While significance of reducing a load to the environment is increasing for realization of eco-society, power conserving function provides a basic function supporting power conserving operation in cooperation with business tasks by realizing a control function to deactivate and activate physical disks which consists a pool where a volume belongs, in accordance to usage of the volume. Operation to activate and deactivate a volume is also possible by command line interface (CLI), and power conservation operation in cooperation with business tasks can be automated. This product leads to reduce max.30% of the power consumption compared with the conventional models depending on the configuration and operation. |

|
Deactivate a volume/Deactivate HDD |
||
|
The product deactivates a volume unused in cooperation with a business task. When all volumes in a pool are deactivated in accordance with usage of the volume, the product stops HDDs consists the volume and reduces power consumption. |

Activate a volume/ Activate HDD |
||
|
The product activates a necessary volume in cooperation with a business task. When HDDs consist a pool where the volume belongs are deactivated, the product starts HDDs consisting the pool. |

Power conservation setting |

|
Activation and deactivation of power conservation function can be set for each volume. - power conservation function is active: power conservation operation for a pool is enabled. - power conservation function is inactive: power conservation operation for a pool is disabled. |
